Dancing Dragons is one of the two places where players can trade Mugs for Resources. Here you can trade Mugs for Souls and in The Cat's Meow you can trade for Rings. The base reward in Dancing Dragons is 5,000 Souls which is then multiplied by a "random" multiplier between 1 and 5x. The base reward was 500 for the longest time and was changed with patch 164 in July 2017.
It appears that the multiplier has about a 30% chance to be 1x, and probably the same for 2x, and then around 20% for 3x, 15% for 4x and 5% for 5x. These numbers are purely based on my casual observations from playing the game. If you have an active Hero Treaty your rewards will be increase by 50%.
Jewel Chances[]
Instead of using Mugs the take chances you can spend Jewels which receives a much better modifier. Jewel chances reward between 2x and 20x the base reward. The first Jewel chance costs 50 Jewels and subsequent chances increase by 50 per chance.

Jewel Chance Math[]
Because it is unknown how random the multipliers are, it is impossible to do math regarding it's efficiency. I tested it for a while and it seems to be heavily weighted towards the low end. I will continue testing.
Trevi Fountain Blessing[]
There is a rare Trevi Fountain Blessing which adds 500 to your reward. This is a substantial increase, so it is highly recommended to save your Mugs for when you get this Blessing.

- It is generally not recommended to exchange Mugs for Souls, since there is a better option: exchange it for the much more useful Rings at The Cat's Meow.
- Interestingly, the owner/innkeeper of the Dancing Dragon seems to be Crackshot.
