Mercenaries are troops lead by heroes. They assist their hero in all invasionsi including Resources Raid, Lords League, and Guild Clash Attack but not defense, Arena, Campaign Clash, Solo Campaign, and Battle Royale. Although they are much weaker than the hero that leads them, they usually comes in great numbers. They can provide the much needed distraction to base defenses and also deal extra damage. As a hero becomes stronger, the number of mercenaries it leads also increases. However, the stats of the mercenaries does not improve with the hero's level.
Mercenaries comes with every hero, and does not need any resources to replenish. A hero always starts with the full number of mercenaries at the beginning of each battle.
Player can strengthen a hero's mercenaries in a couple of ways. The most straight forward method is to level up the mercenaries. This costs souls, but gives the biggest improvement to the mercenary stats. Upon reaching certain level, the outfit of the mercenaries will change, usually become more menacing or better geared.
The second improvement comes from hero Aid Skill. Certain heroes have the skill to increases the ATK or HP of a specific type of mercenaries. Selecting this hero as the Hero Aid will in turn boost the mercenaries of the aided hero. The higher the level of the Aid Skill, the bigger the stat boost. However, one should note that the boost from this source will not be applied in Campaign Clash battles as all Hero Aids are disabled there.
The third way is to purchase and upgrade their stats at Ancient Relic. By spending Mystic Crystals, various stats of the mercenaries can be upgraded, including ATK, ATK speed, SPD (move speed), HP and DMG reduction.
The last method is from a hero's Hero Talents. Certain hero talents boost the ATK and HP of the mercenaries they lead.
Other than leveling up, a hero can further increases the number of mercenaries through Hero Aid and Hero Talents.
In Resources Raid, El Dorado, and Lords League defense, Hero Trials, Coliseum, Guild Boss heroes fight without their mercenaries.
There are currently 9 types of mercenaries in this game:

Merc Talents[]
Mercenary Talents become purchasable for mercenaries once they achieve level 30 and then higher ranks unlock each 5 levels thereafter. There are 2 talents currently available for each merc type. The talent stats are cumulative rather than additive so they get the boost stated by whatever the tooltip on that stat is rather than each level individually. All of the % stats are based off base hp, so they generally are much weaker than the numeric stats on some talents but still generally worth the souls. Many talents raise stats much more significantly than upgrading the mercs level often for a lesser price.

Notes[]
- Heroes that have the same specific type of favorite target always have the mercenaries with the same favorite target. Heroes that attack defenses first will always have Ox Warriors as their mercenaries. The only notable exceptions are Carol d'Belle with Willy Fox and Bullhead with Ox Warriors.
- Flying heroes always have flying mercenaries. Enchantress and Arcane Caster both have Witch mercs while the rest have colossodrakes.
